The epic singing group made raisins cool in the 80’s and here at PROBAR® we still think raisins are the bees knees. As we all know, raisins are dried grapes. The practice of drying fruit is one of the oldest methods of preserving fruit. It all started with the Phoenicians and Egyptians who made raisins as a special treat. The Greeks used raisins to adorn places of worship and as awards. Due to their long shelf life and how easy it is to carry them, raisins traveled with Christopher Columbus, George Washington at Mount Vernon, helped energize Robert E. Peary’s conquest of the North Pole in 1908, and was carried by astronaut Scott Carpenter in outer space in 1962.
