I’ve read articles about hunters, endurance athletes, through hikers all using PROBAR as a light weight source of food when sustained energy is paramount. For new PROBAR customer Travis Skinner the decision to go light with PROBAR paid off.

I had heard about PROBARs from a friend and grabbed a couple for my latest adventure. I decided to try paddling the Frenchbroad River from Brevard to Asheville, NC on the eve of an icestorm (02-21-08). Just my dog, Sky, and I with a little bit of filming equipment in my ole, beat up, river canoe.

I’m proud to have made Eagle Scout when I was a teenager and love to push myself on adventures of all kinds outdoors. I know the importance of traveling light and simple, so I was depending on your PROBARs.

The day started rainy and overcast. By the time the sun was setting, the rain was changing to ice and the cold wetness had soaked through to my bones. I had to dig in and prepare for a cold night. By the time I was finished, I was pretty pooped.

I hadn’t had anything to eat since I put in that day and was really hungry. I munched an apple cinnamon PROBAR! It was awesome! I was expecting another processed version of energy food like I’ve always seen in camping food. The PROBAR was clearly fresh and wholesome, I loved it. I quickly got my energy back and felt great.

I ended up crawling through the Rhododendron with a flashlight in the middle of the icestorm. I never got the video camera out, but I was ready to film any salamanders or other wildlife that would come out in such extreme weather. I had enough energy to stay up past midnight exploring the underbrush and was completely soaked (but happy) by the time i sat down to dry out around the fire. The trip was great and I’ll be sure to bring PROBARs on every future adventure.
