Moonlight Butress
PROBAR customers form a community of healthy, caring people, of this I am sure.
The team of employees that comprise PROBAR are like a family. We look out for each other, joke a lot, and generally enjoy the people we’ve surrounded ourselves with. So it comes as no surprise to me that PROBAR customer Andrew Henderson was introduced to PROBAR founder Art Eggertsen when Art stopped to pick up a hitch-hiker - Andrew, who was on his way to climb in Zion National Park. That’s the type of people here at PROBAR, looking for ways to extend a hand to others.
I am part of the organic whole foods cult and have been vegetarian for almost four years now. As a testament to the quality of PROBARs, I lived on them almost exclusively for five days on a recent trip to the vertical world of Zion.
While in Zion we climbed the moonlight buttress, touchstone, organasm (a more obscure but cool 4 pitch aid route). The first photo (bottom photo) is from the fifth pitch (crux) of moonlight buttress. 180 feet of splitter finger crack. I was certainly glad to be aiding. The second photo is from Touchstone (right) another classic. I think its also on pitch five. The third picture is from a route called “organasm.” (above) Really beautiful rock.
While climbing the ritual was the same: Breakfast Nutty Banana Boom. Lunch on the wall Nutty Banana Boom. Dinner Nutty Banana Boom… and maybe some Oscar’s. These 380 calories helped me push through the suffering of 12+ hour days on the wall and the back of the packaging kept me company on those long hanging belays.
So in order to get to Zion, I either needed to drive 10 hours (yuck) or fly into Vegas and take a bus to St George and hitchhike out of one of America’s most conservative cities. Nothing against conservative cities, except that generally no one wants to pick you up. Well a few hours go by, the sun has set, and I’m still sitting in the same spot.
Wait! Here comes someone. Its a nice car, someone probably just wants an up-close look at a real life hitch hiker. Sure enough, a real friendly guy picks me up. I tell him I’m on a climbing trip, and he mentions something about making bars that climbers like. I’m unsure what this means- I’m thinking bars in a gym?
He asks if I’ve heard of PROBARs. Of course I have! He introduces himself as Art, and immediately I am reminded of the little John Hancock on the packaging. Thanks for the ride Art!
Each customer whose “Your PROBAR Story”is published here on the blog will receive a Seventh Heaven Pack which is one PROBAR of each of the original flavors. We love to hear from our customers about their PROBAR story so if you’ve got one share it with us.
