When new PROBAR customer Mike Sheehan entered the Italian Bike Fest Ride he never expected to take a wrong turn and thereby make the right connection with PROBAR. Like a match made in heaven, some things are meant to be.
Early April is the annual Italian Bike Fest in Ellijay, Georgia. The signature ride is 70 miles and about 7,000 feet of climbing.
I got dropped at the first hill, out of shape and feeling my years but still on my really pretty Italian bike. I found a partner to ride with and we both missed the turn for the short option - 41 miles and 2,500 feet of climbing.
With only a cue sheet, it took us about 10 miles to figure out we were lost. This being lost part goes on for a while and we are in the boondocks of the north Georgia mountains. Being off course we miss the one rest stop and neither of us have food. I had a half of an energy bar and we split it.
About 50 miles into the ride we are coming into town with about zero energy and water. I am dreading the finish line. I am mostly vegan and the end of ride party is meatball subs, lasagna and soft drinks. When I spy a new health food store with a cafe and I am overcome with relief and anticipation.
The first thing I find is no CAFE the next thing is the PROBAR samples. I loaded up on PROBARs and water. I’m hooked! I finished the ride in fine form and was spared the meat meal.
As usual a bad day on the bike is better than a good day in the office!
Thanks for the story Mike! Glad you found us…and the finish line.
