Skiing From Wyoming’s Highest Peak

PROBAR athlete Steve Romeo has been busy. No, unlike the rest of us his kind of busy is getting after the many ski mountaineering objectives that exist in his home state of Wyoming. This past week, along with partners Jeremy Prine, Tim, and Chris, Steve was in the Wind River Range of Wyoming with the objective among other things to ski from the summit of Gannett Peak, Wyoming’s highest peak.

The Wind River Range is quite remote and seldom sees more than a dozen or so visitors to the core of the range in the winter. Summer is a different story as it’s a “popular” backpacking destination but it is still one of the more rugged and pure mountain locations in the lower 48.

Here Steve is nearing the summit of Gannett Peak.
