 Eating right and eating the best for your body takes on many shapes and forms and for PROBAR customer Audra Lee this means going GMO-free. Perhaps you know someone that has tried to do the same and realize what a challenge it can be.

Here is Audra’s story about finding PROBAR at her local store Earth Fare.

I have been on a quest to make my diet 100% GMO-free (GMO  genetically modified organisms), which is proving to be an incredibly difficult task indeed because GMO foods are not required to be labeled.

I am always filled with first astonishment, then excitement when I pick up a food product from a company that participates in the voluntary labeling of “non-GMO” on their products, since this is not the norm. Whereas 100% organic is by definition non-GMO, it is much harder to be assured of non-GMO status on food labeled “organic” (by definition 95% organic, but the remaining 5% may or may not contain GMOs) or any lower percentage of organic ingredients.

My main grocery store here in North Carolina is EarthFare, and they stock PROBAR. When I first picked up the ‘whole berry blast‘ bar, I immediately flipped it over to read the ingredients, as I always do when I encounter a new product.

I hardly ever succumb to the front-of-the-package advertising anymore–just because something is made with organic ingredients does not make me comfortable that those ingredients might still be contaminated with other ingredients that are GMO.  

As I read through the ingredients, I looked for the suspect ingredients; in this particular product those included soy, canola, corn, and vitamin E. I immediately wonder if they are genetically modified, and most of the time I have to put the item back on the shelf because of the lack of labeling either way.

So you can imagine my joy (and comfort) when at the bottom of the ingredient list, the good people at PROBAR cared enough about me as the consumer to label it “NON-GMO.”

I will be forever grateful, and will make PROBAR a standard companion on my hiking adventures, near and far. Thanks for labeling your products NON-GMO, and giving your consumers informed choices!
