Breakfast and Dinner on Denali

This story comes to us from Adam Clark,  an accomplished ski photographer whose images have been highlighted in Powder Magazine, Outside, Skiing to name a few.

Last summer he and some friends went to climb Mount McKinley (or Denali as it’s often known) and to ski down.  At altitude and under extreme conditions sometimes “food” or what climbers often bring as food, isn’t all that interesting.  Adam found PROBAR was worth it’s weight in gold.

Denali Summit

Last summer skiing with amigo Clark Fyans we got lucky with a 10 day weather hole of blue skies and warm temperatures at the 14,500 foot base camp of Denali. We decided to make the most of it and ski from the summit.

Starting from Base Camp we left some gear at the high camp, scampered to the top, skied back down to the high camp-perfect! I was beat down, beyond any other time in my life and of course we wanted to wake up the next morning to ski from the North Summit.

At 17,500 feet stoves don’t boil water that well and dehydrated mashed potatoes aren’t that tasty-good thing I had some PROBARS, so I put one down for dinner and one for breakfast. Next morning I had recovered and had the energy for summit number two!
