Receiving PROBAR Kindness
Kindness. Sometimes you have to look for it, other times it just comes to you when you least expect it. Sharing PROBAR, or anything for that matter with others has been a common theme from YOUR PROBAR Stories.
As I read the story below from Alissa Kimmell, I couldn’t resist the large smile that came upon me, knowing that somehow PROBAR had once again so genuinely been a part of kindness given and received.
My boyfriend and I had just returned to our campsite from the hot springs in Hoh Rainforest. It was, surprisingly, very rainy, and we were very wet. We were also very hungry. We’d been hiking all day through mud and muck in Olympic National Park in Washington and, in honor of the last day of our ten-day trek we intended to cook our last two cans of lentil soup. We didn’t have much dry food left.
Alas, the morning’s steady drizzle had become the afternoon’s showers, and when we waddled into the campsite, our clothes weighted down with water from our earlier hike, the showers had evolved into torrents. We were tarpless, and even the majestic Spruce and Hemlock trees weren’t going to provide enough shelter for us to fire up our small stove.
Sifting through our knapsack we were dismayed by the meager remains of our food: some oats and powdered milk. So we did what any desperate camper would do: we knocked on our neighbor’s tent. “Hi,” we said. “Can we cook our lentils under your tarp? We’d be happy to share…”
Veterans of the Northwest, they knew it was no night for cooking. The thin man with the bushy beard who greeted us and nodded understandingly. “Want some probars?” We looked at each other. “Sure, some what bars?”
“Probars,” he said. He reached into the depths of his tent and produced three squarish brightly colored packages. “Art’s Original Blend,” they read. We accepted them gratefully and returned to the shelter of our car to eat.
We couldn’t believe how chewy and satisfyingly filling these little bars were. I especially savored the bits of fruits and nuts. That night, despite being very wet, we went to bed with full and happy stomachs and slept like bears.
Today, our cabinets are always stocked with probars. We even take a few extra when we go on camping and hiking trips. One day, we hope, we will be able to return the favor.
Each customer whose “Your PROBAR Story”is published here on the blog will receive a Seventh Heaven Pack which is one PROBAR of each of the original flavors. We love to hear from our customers about their PROBAR story so if you’ve got one share it with us.

Alissa - what a great story. I grew up in the NW Washington and am familiar with how cold and wet it can get… glad PROBAR could be a part of your adventures!
