Christine Vardaros is a world-class vegan cyclist. She is also a journalist and writer for various magazines and sites like VegNews magazine, Cyclo-Cross magazine, and Cyclingnews.com. She is an official spokesperson for In Defense of Animals, a founding member of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, and is a member of the athlete’s advisory board for the Stone Foundation for Sports Medicine and Arthritis Research. And she’s never owned a car.

1 thing not “well known” about my sport
While I race mountain bikes and road bikes in the summer, I am most famous as a cyclo-cross specialist which is the hardest of all the cycling disciplines. The race is only 40 minutes but absolute pure hell – as hard as you can go from beginning to end. It is 2/3 dirt and 1/3 paved roads, and a few times per lap you must approach a manmade or natural barrier often times at over 20mph as you swiftly jump off the bike, over the barrier and back on. It is the most beautiful sport at the top end but something completely different when done at the amateur levels.
Goals
To win the Tour of Cyprus Road Stage Race and to place top 10 in famous international events.
