PROBAR athlete Emma Garrard recently completed the XTERRA World Championship in Hawaii and sent in this report.
I placed 4th at the XTERRA World Championship on Sunday in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii. I am happy with my result even though it was a far-from-perfect performance and I was only 23 seconds from the podium. I am grateful because it was an improvement on last year’s 5th place and because of the tremendous support I received to be able to compete in this race. Expect to see the women who finished in front of me contending for a medal next Olympics.
My results for the 7 years have competed have been 13th, 12th, 11th, 10th, 8th, 5th, and 4th! I came out of the water in 11th place and started the run in 4th place holding off a lot of strong runners. There was a lot of elevation gain on the bike and run which worked to my advantage. As expected, it was a hot, humid day out there and I was able to pace and fuel myself well for the race. I didn’t eat any solids while racing due to the intensity of the race, but PROBAR fueled my training and travel for the event.
Thanks again for your support this year and for making it the best yet! I am looking forward to the off-season, spending a lot of time with my son but also coaching a Jr Nordic program in Park City. Cheers!
