PROBAR customers can be found all over the United States and now more and more of them are showing up in Canada as we are increasing distribution there. At the Seattle Coffee Fest show back in November we bumped into a lot of Canadians who loved PROBAR but were anxious to find them in Canadian stores. For our friends to the north, we’re doing our best to get them everywhere!

Customer Rhona Walker is one of our customers in Canada who has found our bars and is eager to make them a part of her and her family’s active lifestyle, including her son Stewart who is seen in these pictures skiing at Whistler Resort.

I live in Whistler, British Columbia and was at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival today. At one of the booths in the village, at the base of the gondola I received a Probar. While skiing with my two year old son we demolished it. Stewart thought it was wonderful and for Mum, it was the best health Bar I have ever had.

When we finished skiing Stewart insisted on going back to the booth for another one. My six year old daughter said it was truely a ” superfood slam.” Why not come to the huge mountain bike festival here in Whistler in the summer and promote your fantastic product? And please start supplying it in Vancouver. We will never buy any other bar but Probar now. Great job, congratulations!

Each customer whose “Your PROBAR Story” is published here on the blog will receive a Seventh Heaven Pack which is one PROBAR of each of the original flavors. We love to hear from our customers about their PROBAR story so if you’ve got one share it with us.

One of the more flattering things as a result of making a product that people enjoy is when they like it enough to talk about it on their personal blogs. Here are a couple from the past week who have posted about PROBAR and who are worth mentioning.

Fitness For Mommies

This is a great blog about, well, fitness related posts for moms. From the About Me page:

Fitness for Mommies was created for the woman athlete and mother. It is my desire on this website to offer information, articles, tips, and inspiration to all of you to get outside and get fit!

Most of the posts are related to cycling and running which are her passions. Along with that is nutrition which is why she did a review of PROBAR, finding the Superfood Slam to be her favorite. Like most of us, mom’s or not, we are on the go far too often. When you’re out and about there are few options that are fast and nutritious. I’m sure you can relate.

The weekends are the worst for us mainly because it is unpredictable- which leads to eating out or snacking on the go. Then the discussion begins: “Where can we eat that I will accept less than healthy food on the go?” There is no such thing as healthy fast food. I can NOT stand the thought of drive through fast food- and yet, sometimes, I don’t have any other alternative. Well, now, I have NO excuses. The Probar is here and it has become a staple in my house.

Check out Fitness For Mommies. Yesterday’s post about getting the right bike for your use is full of great advice.

Ironmom

Aren’t most mom’s an Ironmom in one sense or another? Robin is the author of the blog Ironmom and when you look at her “About Me” statement you’ll see that aside from training for an Ironman she is indeed an Ironmom:

I’m currently an unschooling mom of two, but have been many things at different times in my life. I’ve worked at Microsoft, played in a punk band, been on a skydiving team, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, traveled, and adventured around. My main passions right now are photography, competing in triathlons, writing (novels, short stories, poetry, non-fiction), coaching a Team in Training triathlon team, coaching a FLL robotics team that my kids are on, and trying to make our house and land more sustainable.

After a very long search for sustaining energy bar and recently finding PROBAR she said:

It’s delicious, organic, whole raw food, vegan, non-GMO and in short just about perfect.

Check out her Ironmom blog.

For PROBAR customer Kelly Oliver sharing the bars, whether voluntarily or not, is part of his style. It’s also how he heard about the bars. While training for the LOTOJA cycling race which is a one day race of 206 miles from Logan, Utah to Jackson, Wyoming, his friend introduced him to the bars. Since then he’s been hooked. Now it’s his turn. Kelly will be sharing the new PROBAR flavors with his co-workers and will respond back on the blog about how it goes. Stay tuned!

I have been eating Probars for the past seven months and I love them. I have rode LOTOJA twice now and going for five- that’s the goal. I’m not on any particular race team. I learned about ProBar from a friend who was training with me last year. That’s when I started eating ProBars.

I told my wife about them. I usually keep about three or four in the cupboard. I came home one day and was looking for my Probars and they were gone. I thought maybe I forgot to stock up or something. So I asked my wife where the Probars went and she said that she ate them over a few days period. She said they were excellent so she decided to try the three flavors I had in the cupboard. Now that I can buy them at Harmon’s grocery store, Probars are on the shopping list each week as I have to fight my wife for them.

One another note- I had a Probar on my desk at work and a co-worker asked what they were so I explained the Probar story and that they taste great. A few other people asked me about them as well so I decided the next day I would have a Probar sampling party at work. I brought in my three favorite bars- Banana Boom, Koka Moka, and Whole Berry Blast and cut them up in sample squares and employees that I work with tried them. They tell me how much better Probars are than Clif and Powerbars.

When new PROBAR customer Mike Sheehan entered the Italian Bike Fest Ride he never expected to take a wrong turn and thereby make the right connection with PROBAR. Like a match made in heaven, some things are meant to be.

Early April is the annual Italian Bike Fest in Ellijay, Georgia. The signature ride is 70 miles and about 7,000 feet of climbing.

I got dropped at the first hill, out of shape and feeling my years but still on my really pretty Italian bike. I found a partner to ride with and we both missed the turn for the short option - 41 miles and 2,500 feet of climbing.

With only a cue sheet, it took us about 10 miles to figure out we were lost. This being lost part goes on for a while and we are in the boondocks of the north Georgia mountains. Being off course we miss the one rest stop and neither of us have food. I had a half of an energy bar and we split it.

About 50 miles into the ride we are coming into town with about zero energy and water. I am dreading the finish line. I am mostly vegan and the end of ride party is meatball subs, lasagna and soft drinks. When I spy a new health food store with a cafe and I am overcome with relief and anticipation.

The first thing I find is no CAFE the next thing is the PROBAR samples. I loaded up on Probars and water. I’m hooked! I finished the ride in fine form and was spared the meat meal.

As usual a bad day on the bike is better than a good day in the office!

Thanks for the story Mike! Glad you found us…and the finish line.

PROBAR customers form a community of healthy, caring people, of this I am sure. The team of employees that comprise PROBAR are like a family. We look out for each other, joke a lot, and generally enjoy the people we’ve surrounded ourselves with. So it comes as no surprise to me that PROBAR customer Andrew Henderson was introduced to PROBAR founder Art Eggertsen when Art stopped to pick up a hitch-hiker - Andrew, who was on his way to climb in Zion National Park. That’s the type of people here at PROBAR, looking for ways to extend a hand to others.

I am part of the organic whole foods cult and have been vegetarian for almost four years now. As a testament to the quality of ProBars, I lived on them almost exclusively for five days on a recent trip to the vertical world of Zion.

While in Zion we climbed the moonlight buttress, touchstone, organasm (a more obscure but cool 4 pitch aid route). The first photo (bottom photo) is from the fifth pitch (crux) of moonlight buttress. 180 feet of splitter finger crack. I was certainly glad to be aiding. The second photo is from Touchstone (right) another classic. I think its also on pitch five. The third picture is from a route called “organasm.” (above) Really beautiful rock.

While climbing the ritual was the same: Breakfast Nutty Banana Boom. Lunch on the wall Nutty Banana Boom. Dinner Nutty Banana Boom… and maybe some Oscar’s. These 380 calories helped me push through the suffering of 12+ hour days on the wall and the back of the packaging kept me company on those long hanging belays.

So in order to get to Zion, I either needed to drive 10 hours (yuck) or fly into Vegas and take a bus to St George and hitchhike out of one of America’s most conservative cities. Nothing against conservative cities, except that generally no one wants to pick you up. Well a few hours go by, the sun has set, and I’m still sitting in the same spot.

Wait! Here comes someone. Its a nice car, someone probably just wants an up-close look at a real life hitch hiker. Sure enough, a real friendly guy picks me up. I tell him I’m on a climbing trip, and he mentions something about making bars that climbers like. I’m unsure what this means- I’m thinking bars in a gym?

He asks if I’ve heard of ProBars. Of course I have! He introduces himself as Art, and immediately I am reminded of the little John Hancock on the packaging. Thanks for the ride Art!

For some, eating a PROBAR is something they do to replace a meal or to obtain more energy for recovery/sports. Sometimes they eat them for pure enjoyment. Others, like customer Daisy Frearson eat them to survive. Here is her PROBAR story.

I stumbled across the Probar as I was sulking in the local PCC I had just been released from the hospital.

After discovering that I had become lactose intolerant, I was given protein shakes to boost up my weight. They were disgusting, but i choked them down everyday. Then I bought one that I didn’t realize contained milk. So bloated stomach, barfing fits and one emergency room later, I found myself in the bar section where I glazed upon the Pro Bar for the first time. At that moment turned my life around.

As a 16 year old, outdoor hiker, runner, skier, biker, who is an organic freak, the Probar showed me it was possible. After trying one of these beautiful pieces of artwork, I loaded up on them. The bar is now a part of my everyday life. Multiple times a day I enjoy the exotic and exciting flavors of these bars that not only are delicious, but leave you feeling wholesome and energized. It saved my life.

My mum always comments how impossible it would have been to continue my active lifestyle with out them, as i is a great source of everything in one, easy pack. I can keep my weight up, be healthy, active and feel great. I’m even known in school for my probars, everyone cheering when i pull it out.

No doubt, the best thing that I have ever found. And with all the great flavors! Superfood Slam is no doubt the best, and experimenting with them-chopping them up and having them with yogurt, freezing them and eating them as a cold snack- has been just as exciting. The Probar is food of the gods

Daisy, it’s an honor to have you as a customer. Hang in there and thanks for being so passionate about our product.

After hiking the John Muir Trail in August 2007 me and two of my good friends from Vermont were hitchhiking back on Hwy 395. We met an old man who shared some lemon bars made with pork fat. They were filling, but tasted vaguely of chemicals. Yum.

Then we landed at the Tuolumne Store where lo and behold the hiker barrel had a banana and a Koka Moka PROBAR in it. The rest of the day we drank copious quantities of water driving down through the “valley of the devil” (central valley) as my friend called it. One of us had to ride in the back of the pickup and it was just unbelievably hot in there.

Finally we stopped for a break, and starving, opened the PROBARS. WOW. I was expecting half-ass energy bar nourishment. This felt vital. Like real food. Had we had these on the trail they probably would’ve been the best food we had all trip.

Even eaten afterwards they were still vying for first with tuna pasta and black bean burritos. I’m planning on hiking the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) this summer, and PROBAR will be a big part of it.

Good luck on that tremendous adventure David! Let us know how the hike goes.

Looking for a meal replacement bar is becoming more common. At PROBAR, that’s what we do best - make meal replacement bars. Among the various flavors I think Nutty Banana is the sleeper. It catches people by surprise.

If you caught the story from customer Kimberly Di Tacchio a couple of weeks ago she too was amazed at the flavor of the Nutty Banana Boom. This Your PROBAR Story comes to us from Carol Polley who could barely contain her enthusiasm after trying it for the first time.

I am a healthy, 40 something female that has tried numerous “energy” bars, “nutrition” bars and the like. I was looking for a meal replacement bar when I was in our Whole Foods Market here in Charleston, SC and came across the ProBar display.

I decided to try one, the Nutty Banana Boom, and boy oh boy was I suprised!!! Totally satisfying and DELICIOUS, this bar is where it is at!!! Filling and satisfying, it is the perfect breakfast replacement for me. I immediately went to your website and placed my next order to try more flavors!!

I have since tried four of the other flavors and am TOTALLY hooked on your product!

Thank you for such a great product! Keep up the great work and you will have myself and co-workers as customers for life!

After having been a fan of PROBAR for so long and having eaten them for over a year now, I actually have forgotten what other bars taste like. Yes, I’m spoiled.

From time to time I’m somewhat surprised when customers tell us that taste was a secondary concern when they choose to try PROBAR but that they found the flavor to be top notch. Since when did food not have to taste good? Food is enjoyment, as well as being necessary. Goes hand in hand, at least in my opinion.

For new customer Bera Aksoy he was willing to sacrifice taste when choosing a bar, but now that he’s found PROBAR he no longer has to give up taste for sustaining energy.

I took my first bite of the Pro Bar and had to pause for a few seconds to say “WOW!”, at which point I quickly went on to take my second bite to make sure my taste buds were not deceiving me.

The reason I picked up Pro Bar Superfood Slam was that it was mostly raw and organic. Frankly, taste was a secondary concern as I perceive having a bar as a meal replacement is only suitable to me when I can’t leave my desk at work or when I am on the go and have nothing healthy to eat around. I finished my bar and went online to search the website and here I am.

I think you guys just won over a loyal customer and I intend to get my kids hooked on it also. Kudos for a great job you are doing and keep it up!

Going strong all day takes energy, real energy. For PROBAR customer Alex Acosta whether it’s at school or on the fields of glory (paint ball) his new found source of energy that tastes oh so good is PROBAR. Here is his story.

I am a college student and that basically means complete meals are hard to come by. Mainly because I am always on the move from class to class and so I cannot take the good food from home with me and expect it to stay in any decent shape while strapped in my back pack enduring the shakes and bumps that Austin’s roads exert on my bike.

Well, me and my girlfriend were going to go paint balling. We woke up late and had to rush out the door with little more than a bowl of cereal to fuel us. We knew immediately our visionary domination of the playing field would not be held over by a meager bowl of cereal so we stopped in at Smoothie King to get some liquid power fuel. While there a bar unknown to us caught our eye. Long time supporters of natural energy bars like Clif bars, we decided to give it a try being organic and having a good amount of protein. Well we took our bar, Art’s Original, and put them down. The rest, well it’s history.

We were paint terrors, and when the weak began to break from the play due to tiredness and exhaustion, we were surging forward. The bars definitely gave us balanced long lasting energy and we never once lost our edge.

Now Clif bars are great, do not get me wrong, but what they lack is taste and WOW are these probars simply amazing! Keep up the great work, you have new friends in Austin, TX.
