A to-go meal in a bar

Boston Herald November 2007

gift guide boston heraldWhat do you get when a natural food chef and snowboarder gets hungry on the slopes? The PROBAR®.Art Eggertsen wanted to avoid the ski fare of cheeseburgers, fries and sodas, so he hit the Utah health food stores to work on a recipe for a bar that would satisfy his exercise-fueled hunger.

That’s the story behind the Superfood Slam and six other PROBAR® flavors. These 3 ounce bars are packed full of fruit, nuts and a flavor that says ‘˜nutritional goodness’ in every bite. Made from whole, raw foods, the bars are 100-percent vegan.

The Superfood Slam features Acai berries, organic hemp seeds, grain-sweetened dark chocolate, raspberries and greens (alfalfa and barley, oat and wheat grasses). Those who don’t shop regularly at a health food store might be turned off by the ingredients, but don’t be fooled. This bar is delicious.

Other PROBAR® flavors are: Art’s Original Blend, Whole Berry Blast, Nutty Banana Boom, Apple Cinnamon Crunch, Cran-Lemon Twister and Koka Moka.

In Massachusetts, PROBAR® is available at select stores including Whole Foods, REI and Eastern Mountain Sports. Suggested price is $3.29 per bar or $35.48 for a box of 12.
